Malheureusement il nous quitta brutalement en novembre de la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, laissant son travail sur l\u2019histoire des ponts de Pontoise inachev\u00e9. Ce dernier est publi\u00e9 en l\u2019\u00e9tat dans les <em>M\u00e9moires de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Historique et Arch\u00e9ologique de Pontoise du Val d\u2019Oise et du Vexin<\/em> (1) et c\u2019est aujourd\u2019hui pour moi l\u2019occasion de pr\u00e9senter, comme un modeste hommage \u00e0 Paul Mathieu, cette collection de documents photographiques qui devait int\u00e9grer son \u00e9tude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Contexte historique :<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">  L\u2019histoire du chemin de fer en France remonte au d\u00e9but du XIXe si\u00e8cle. Les d\u00e9penses li\u00e9es aux guerres Napol\u00e9oniennes retardent son d\u00e9veloppement et le pays se repose sur un r\u00e9seau de routes et de voies fluviales performant. Les premi\u00e8res voies pos\u00e9es en France le sont essentiellement \u00e0 des fins industrielles et avec des trains hippotract\u00e9s. En 1837, la voie Paris &#8211; Saint-Germain-en-Laye est inaugur\u00e9e, elle ne sera finalis\u00e9e qu\u2019en 1847 mais c\u2019est la premi\u00e8re en France \u00e0 accueillir un train \u00e0 vapeur d\u00e9di\u00e9 au transport de voyageurs. Les chemins de fer ne prennent leur essor qu\u2019apr\u00e8s l\u2019adoption, en 1842, de la loi relative \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tablissement des grandes lignes de chemin de fer. Dans le cadre d\u2019un partenariat public\/priv\u00e9, l\u2019Etat prend en charge les co\u00fbts d\u2019achat des terrains ainsi que la construction des b\u00e2timents et les priv\u00e9s ceux des voies ferr\u00e9es et du mat\u00e9riel roulant. L\u2019Etat g\u00e8re donc l\u2019expansion du r\u00e9seau ferr\u00e9 tandis que les compagnies sont en monopole d\u2019exploitation sur leurs lignes. En 1846, la ligne Paris &#8211; Lille est inaugur\u00e9e et passe par Epluches (Saint-Ouen-l\u2019Aum\u00f4ne). Source : non identifi\u00e9e pour le moment mais issue d&rsquo;un livre avec la mention \u00ab\u00a0Malibu, collection Michael et Jane Wilson\u00a0\u00bb.<\/mark><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1861, le premier pont de chemin de fer \u00e0 Pontoise :<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">  D\u00e8s 1857, Pontoise oeuvre \u00e0 ce qu\u2019un nouvel embranchement sur la voie du Nord se fasse sur la commune. La ligne devant traverser l\u2019Oise et couper le plateau de Saint-Martin du reste de la ville, il fallut int\u00e9grer l\u2019am\u00e9nagement de passages, calculer la hauteur du pont pour permettre aux chargements agricoles de passer au niveau des quais, mais aussi de ne pas g\u00eaner la circulation fluviale. La solution passe par l\u2019apport d\u2019importants remblais, surtout \u00e0 Saint-Ouen-l\u2019Aum\u00f4ne o\u00f9 la voie ferr\u00e9e se retrouve \u00e0 plusieurs m\u00e8tres au dessus du niveau de circulation de la ville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">  Une lettre du Ministre des travaux publics du 18 avril 1860 (2) apporte de nombreuses pr\u00e9cisions techniques sur le pont en fer de deux voies qui sera construit. La Compagnie des Chemins de Fer du Nord pr\u00e9sente un projet pour un pont form\u00e9 de quatre trav\u00e9es, une premi\u00e8re de 25,62 m\u00e8tres qui lib\u00e8re le chemin de halage de 4,25 m\u00e8tres sur la rive de Saint-Ouen-l\u2019Aum\u00f4ne, une deuxi\u00e8me trav\u00e9e de 31,38 m\u00e8tres au-dessus de la rivi\u00e8re, une troisi\u00e8me trav\u00e9e de 25,62 m\u00e8tres qui laisse un passage de 10 m\u00e8tres pour le port et une quatri\u00e8me trav\u00e9e \u00ab&nbsp;sp\u00e9ciale&nbsp;\u00bb de 15,85 m\u00e8tres pour d\u00e9gager la route du port. La largeur du pont est de 9,2 m\u00e8tres dont 60 centim\u00e8tres pour la poutre centrale \u00e0 laquelle s\u2019ajoute une passerelle pour pi\u00e9tons de 2,3 m\u00e8tres de largeur. L\u2019ensemble de 400 tonnes environ repose sur des piles et cul\u00e9es en b\u00e9ton de respectivement 2,7 et 1,5 m\u00e8tres d\u2019\u00e9paisseur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">  En 1870, la guerre Franco-Prussienne fait rage et, devant l\u2019inexorable avanc\u00e9e des Prussiens sur le territoire, le pont est partiellement d\u00e9truit par l\u2019Arm\u00e9e Fran\u00e7aise pour prot\u00e9ger sa retraite vers Paris. On note les d\u00e9g\u00e2ts importants sur la pile qui restera fragilis\u00e9e m\u00eame apr\u00e8s sa r\u00e9fection. Archives Municipale de Pontoise c\u00f4te 7FI130.<\/mark><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">  Lors de la premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale, le pont \u00e9chappe de \u00ab&nbsp;justesse&nbsp;\u00bb \u00e0 la destruction par le g\u00e9nie en 1916. Toutefois il continue \u00e0 montrer des faiblesses et les machines de plus en plus lourdes qui circulent doivent passer \u00e0 vitesse r\u00e9duite alors que dans le m\u00eame temps la fr\u00e9quence des passages augmente. La premi\u00e8re trav\u00e9e fait 27,65 m\u00e8tres de longueur et repose sur une cul\u00e9e en b\u00e9ton arm\u00e9 situ\u00e9e \u00e0 Pontoise et sur une pile en berge, la deuxi\u00e8me de 24,57 m\u00e8tres repose sur une pile en rivi\u00e8re renforc\u00e9e en b\u00e9ton tandis que la troisi\u00e8me de 57,9 m\u00e8tres est maintenue par une arche et repose sur la cul\u00e9e en b\u00e9ton arm\u00e9 de Saint-Ouen-l\u2019Aum\u00f4ne.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">  L\u2019ensemble des travaux sur les piles et les cul\u00e9es est effectu\u00e9 sans interruption du trafic ferroviaire. En parall\u00e8le, les Etablissements Renoux \u00e0 Poissy, installe les charpentes, \u00e9chafaudages et ouvrages provisoires qui permettront de construire le nouveau pont et de permettre le d\u00e9placement simultan\u00e9 de l\u2019ancien et du nouveau tablier. Le chantier, r\u00e9alis\u00e9 sous la direction du technicien M. Rivier, n\u00e9cessite pr\u00e8s de 750 m<sup>3<\/sup> de bois et 200 \u00e9pieux de 18 m\u00e8tres sont enfonc\u00e9s dans le lit de la rivi\u00e8re. Cette phase de travaux, dont le co\u00fbt s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve \u00e0 9 millions de francs, est surveill\u00e9e par MM. Cette entreprise est issue de l\u2019association, en 1861, des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s Cail et Fives-Lille (firme&nbsp;Parent &amp; Schaken): &nbsp;\u00ab&nbsp;<em>Fond\u00e9e en 1861, elle doit sa notori\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;ampleur de ses installations (plus de 15 hectares d&rsquo;ateliers, 12 marteaux pilons, 95 forges, 500 machines-outils), au nombre de ses ouvriers qui sont plusieurs milliers. (&#8230;) de 1861 \u00e0 1905 sortent de ses ateliers plus de 2000 ponts de chemin de fer, une centaine de ponts routiers, dont certains monumentaux, des gares de chemins de fer dont la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre gare d&rsquo;Orsay, plus de 2000 locomotives. La Compagnie de Fives-Lille exporte ses productions dans le monde entier, en Espagne, en \u00c9gypte avec deux ponts sur le Nil, en Roumanie, en Chine, au Br\u00e9sil, en Argentine &#8230;&nbsp;<\/em>\u00bb (3).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">  On peut noter que cette entreprise a aussi fourni les machines du Transsib\u00e9rien, construit les ascenseurs de la tour Eiffel en 1889 ou encore construit le Viaduc des Fades (Puy-de-D\u00f4me), entre 1901 et 1909, sur des piles de 92 m\u00e8tres de hauteur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">   A Pontoise, il faut 12 mois pour construire le nouveau pont directement sur les charpentes, puis jumeler les deux structures au moyen de tiges filet\u00e9es. Un arr\u00eat\u00e9 municipal interdit la circulation sur le quai B\u00fbcherel, le quai du port et la passerelle provisoire tandis que des bus sont mis en place entre Pontoise, Saint-Ouen-l\u2019Aum\u00f4ne et Eragny pour les utilisateurs de la ligne de train. La s\u00e9curit\u00e9 publique est assur\u00e9e par le capitaine de gendarmerie Blanchard, commandant la section de Pontoise et le commissaire de la ville, M. Gardin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">  L\u2019ensemble des c\u00e2blages \u00e9lectriques pour la signalisation, le t\u00e9l\u00e9graphe et le t\u00e9l\u00e9phone, est install\u00e9 sur la passerelle provisoire. Les deux tabliers, pour \u00eatre d\u00e9plac\u00e9s sur une quinzaine de m\u00e8tres, sont pos\u00e9s sur 5 chemins de roulement dont l\u2019ensemble est pourvu de 300 galets. C\u2019est M.
